How To Pack As A Minimalist

Hello Loves,

I am back from my beautiful, adventures and, scenic trip to Arizona! This trip was a bit tricky to pack because we were going from hot Phoenix, AZ to Cold Grand Canyon. Yes, there was ice and snow on the ground at the Grand Canyon and, it snowed over night while we were there. We did not hike down the mountain but, we saw almost the entire South Rim of the Grand canyon. If you follow my travel Instagram Forever Seeking Wanderlust you would have seen some incredible pictures of my trip. So, we were packing for pretty warm weather and, then cold weather. If you are trying to pack for a plane you know it is hard to figure out what to bring with you. I did over pack but, I did a pretty good job picking exactly what I was going to wear. I went with a backpack, carry on and, a bigger bag for my luggage.

  • Shoes: One Pair Of Sneakers, Hiking Shoes, Sandals and, shoes I wore on the plan slip on loafers. I ended up wearing each of these shoes multiple times. I felt I packaged exactly what I needed in shoes and, did not over pack.
  • Tops: I wore every shirt shirt I brought as expect one as, I packed enough shirts for 7 days. So, I could have left that shirt behind.
  • Bottoms: There are two pairs I did not end up wearing which were a skort and, shorts. I could have avoided bringing them because they weren’t necessary.
  • I brought earrings and, a ring that I wore almost everyday.
  • All of the toiletries I used
  • All Of The electronics I used
  • I also, used both of my bathing suits
  • All socks and, underwear were used
  • One dress was not used

I really scaled down with packing this trip and, I think I did a stellar job. Here are some tips to help you pack in a minimal way.

  • Clean every piece of clothing you own including socks and, underwear

This way you can look at your whole wardrobe to see what you might want to wear for your trip.

  • Evaluate what the weather is going to be like- You can check this on the weather channel app on your phone so, you can see the weather pattern leading up to your trip and, get alerts if the weather changes.
  • Get everything together you want to pack and, make outfits. Clothing can always be cleaned so, put together only the amount of outfits necessary for the trip. This includes jewelry, shoes and, accessories.
  • Toiletries can be tricky but, if you plan on checking your luggage have a little travel bag for all your toiletries to go into. Do not over pack your makeup you only need what you are going to use.
  • Download books or movies onto your electronic device. Lugging a book or, DVD with you is too much of inconvenience and, will not leave you with enough room for other essentials.
  • You should pack snacks and, bring food with you. It usually cost money to get food on the plane so, bringing a sandwich with you or, snack can save you from spending a lot.
  • Bring headphones to listen to your device.
  • One thing I never go to the airport without is a water bottle that you can reuse that is not filled. You can fill it up at the water fountain and you don’t have to waste a plastic bottle or, like $4.
Please let me know if you have any topics you’s like me to write about in the comments below and, I will get to them as soon as possible.

Zero Waste Items That Are A Must

Hello Loves,

I have been testing out having some zero waste products and, how to reuse some products. I have not become 100% zero waste yet but, I am working my way toward that way of living. I have a mix of items I have found super useful when slowly transitioning to a zero waste friendly lifestyle. If you have more tips for me let me know in the comments below.

  1. Essential Oils: I use them for everything! I don’t use perfume or, body spray I traded them for healthy essentials oils that do not have anything extra in them. It can be used to make your cleaner smell fantastic. Oh, and, I put tea tree oil in my shampoo to help with dry scalp. Each oil can be used in a different way if you make your own soaps and, lotions. Tea tree oil just happens to be what I use a lot because it is prevents bacteria and, has an extreme amount of health benefits.
  2. White Vinegar & Baking Soda: You can clean basically anything with white vinegar and baking soda. I am switching over all of my harmful/chemical products to chemical free, cheap and, effective homemade.
  3. Don’t throw Away Those Orange Peels: Oranges are not only yummy to eat and, drink but, they are great to make cleaning products with. That is when the vinegar comes in handy! I have a jar of vinegar and, orange peels get ready to become natural cleaners. You can also, compost the orange peels so, either way you are using the entire orange; now that is the kin of stuff I like to see all the time and, not waste.
  4. Mesh Bags: I recently got these they are for you to put your produce in. No more plastic bags you, don’t need them and, it is such a waste. Let’s save our landfills. If you are good at forgetting things always keep them in your purse which, is what I do. I never forget them and, always feel great when I take them out to put my produce in.
  5. Bulk Nuts: I buy most items in bulk and, I make sure to buy my cashews in bulk. I am trying not to consume too much almond milk because of how much water is needed. I want to start making my own cashew milk because it is my favorite and, it looks pretty easy to make! I also, buy medjool dates in bulk, charcoal, and, arrowroot powder. My goal is to make almost everything myself.
  6. Soap Nuts: If you have never heard of these hold the phone! It can be used as laundry detergent, dish washing, all purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, shampoo, body & face wash, insect/mosquito repellent, shampoo for pets, cleaning jewelry and, you can even wash your car! It is absolutely amazing cleaner and, you can add some essential oils to it as well.
  7. Food Planning: Yes, this is a given but, most of America including me has wasted or, thrown out food that went bad. This is a problem I want to 100% eliminate from happening. If you make a least and, have one day where you dedicate to making your meals for the week you will be so much happier that your waste of food was eliminated. Do not forget to utilize your freezer, if you are making man items like soup etc. it can get to be too much and, if you make enough you can save some for the next week. It is a win, win!

I hope you all enjoyed getting some info on products that are a must for me! I have a few things to test that I just received so, don’t worry I have plenty more videos coming your way!

Zara Goes Ethical…

Well, I think the fashion industry has heard us loud and clear! Zara has made an ethical/ sustainable collection although, they were vague on the details, this is a step up for the mainstream fashion industry!  When I saw Zara launched an ethical clothing line my first thought was, ” Is Zara just trying to make money off of the ethical trend? ” To answer my question, I would say, “Yes, they are.” We can only applaud this because Zara may be starting a trend throughout the industry which will not only help spread our ethical message but, it will also, result in helping our planet. When you think about “earth” it is larger concept that some us may not be able to grasp. But, if you look at it as your backyard it is possible to conceive helping that little part of the planet. Now, think about others’ backyards all around the country, some of which are non existent because of  excess waste, and pollution. Imagine all of these things right in your backyard; your beautifully landscaped backyard no longer exist and, you helped in the destruction of not only your backyard but, many others. Now go to your sink and, pour yourself a glass of water this is a luxury that man countries do not have. Why is it that they can’t drink their water? The fast fashion industry that we made happen is one of the largest contributors. By using dyes that are filled with chemicals we are not only being extremely wasteful but, dumping the excess dyes into the water. A large population of the world turns a blind eye to all of the horrible methods of how our clothing is made. Some are unaware of the factories/water problem and, I feel it is all of our responsibilities to take action. By expressing the need for an ethical lifestyle we move companies like Zara, toward an ethical approach to their companies. Turning many companies into ethical companies should be one the many goals we set out accomplish on our journey to helping ours’ and others’ backyards.

Have an enlightening and adventurous day,

Hanky Panky: Capsule Wardrobe Update

Are you ready for some Hanky Panky…… underwear that is…. it’s so cheeky. As you know I am putting to together my ethical capsule wardrobe and, that means from head to toe. I realized I should toss my older underwear, and refresh my undergarment wardrobe. I searched for about two hours online which led me to the site Hanky Panky. Normally I would not see

underwear as an investment piece but, in this case I did and, I splurged a bit. The pricing isn’t so different from the ever so famous Victoria’s Secret, with a great bonus of ethical underwear I couldn’t pass them up. I only got four undergarments as that is what I can afford at the moment. Below I will show you a few pictures of the underwear and, the link to purchase them. It is time that we all get a conscious mind that focuses on what is important when it comes to the fashion industry; for me, that is fair trade, ethically made clothing. I support others who work very hard to bring us amazing clothing.

The Ethical Side Of Hanky Panky & Story:

Victoria’s Secret can be kept because there is a reason Hanky Panky’s trade mark is ” The World’s Most Comfortable Thong.” From the moment I clicked submit order to the moment I tried on a pair of Hanky’s silky smooth undies I knew they were something special. Since 1977 Gale Epstein has been creating the world’s phenomenon of underwear. I just want to know why hadn’t I heard about them sooner. Hanky Panky’s undergarments are made & fabric is grown in the U.S. using their signature lace knitting and Supima cotton. The reason their things are so comfy is because the use over 30 yards of thread per thong which means more stitches per inch not only does that equal extreme softness but, it also, equals longer lasting things! Instead of having to go out every month to by new underwear I will just have a set for each capsule wardrobe then, wha-la long lasting and, minimalistic undergarments! I have tested these thongs while working out and, they have not slipped so far and, you know what I mean if you move at all with a thong on. Well, these are technically g-strings but, same thing… either way there hasn’t been any ajusting of the underwear mid-workout which is fantastic! I really love the bikini bottoms better known as Vikini 2 Pack; they are great to wear to bed and silky smooth… They will defiantly be part of each seasons capsule wardrobe. Oh, in case you didn’t realize I am slowly making a capsule wardrobe for undergarments, athletic wear, shoes, and of course my regular wardrobe of 37-40 pieces of clothing. It has been quite an adventure and, my next step is bras.. For anyone who has a larger chest and smaller number like a 36 then, you will know finding a bra is next to impossible and, even when you do they are crazy expensive. If you know of an ethical site that sells larger bust sizes like 36DDD I would love to know where to get one! In the mean-time I will keep searching and, hopefully find one! When I do you all with be the first to know. Stay tuned for my capsule wardrobe updates coming your way!

Have an enlightening and, adventurous day,

allie

Orange Harp: Ethical App

Ethical apps are getting me so excited!!

Orange Harp an app that I just discovered with some brands that are making a huge impact on our planet. From zero waste to helping people all over the country his app will make you want to be in on it. I just discovered this app last night and, it is part of my research for my ethical capsule wardrobe. Yes, I have actually been working on my ebook and, I will even be shooting some of looks in Italy! Hopefully, my brother will put on his artistic photographer hat and, help a sister out, literally. I found so many amazing companies and, there a few that stood out right away.

Indosoles- Makes shoes out of tires. Kyle the founder was on a trip in Bali when he discovered locals who were making sandals out of tires of course seeing this at as a golden opportunity he came up with indosole. All the material are vegan, toxin/chemical free and no powered machinery. Kyle’s vision is to take 1 million tires from Indonesian landfills and make them into shoes. Now, that is what I call inspiring! If you remembered I mentioned how landfills will be in future generations backyards if we don’t do anything about it. If more people are like Kyle we won’t have that problem in the future and, trash will become reused in a unique fashion. I want to purchase one pair of sneakers and, a pair of sandals for Italy. This is a company I want to purchase from now and in the future.

bureo- Three friends with a desire to see plastic gone from he ocean. The meaning behind the name bureo is : “the waves” derived from the language Mapuche. They came up with a recycling program to provide fisherman with “environmentally sound disposal points called Net Positiva. From there the team receives” recyclable and durable raw materials.” This can only be found in Chile however, Net Positiva is making its way to California. Their line consists of sustainable skateboards, water bottles, sunglasses, and utensil set. Another great way to help our oceans become free of pollution and, where the fish can roam free. I know that there are fishermen involved in this but, the company is trying to make our oceans safer by giving the fishermen somewhere to dispose of their nets with out further harming the fish. I have always wanted to learn to ride a skateboard but, unfortunately it is not on my list of items I need.

Mitscoots- It does not mention that these socks are vegan or sustainable but, the cause is extremely important.  Tim Scoot founder of Miscoots discovered that the homeless people of Austin, Texas desired socks apart from food and, water. Now some of the homeless people in their area are employed by mitscoots and, for every pair bought another pair is donated to a homeless person. This is how I would envision my company being run by people who are in need of jobs. It is my passion to help those in need of being helped. I would like my company to take aspects of each of these companies and, form an amazing environment to work in.

Right now, I can’t afford employees and, I can’t really afford myself, lol. But, I know that envisioning my company to be more of a family base who helps the environment will manifest it to be. wouldn’t you want to work in places like these that help instead of hurt the planet and, people within it. When I think about the millions of companies who are hungry for money and, have miserable employees I always wonder where did they go wrong, why won’t you build your employees up, why wouldn’t you help them succeed, why wouldn’t you have a save and, calming environment to work in. And, I do not think I will ever understand their ways of business and, I can only strive to do better one day when I have employees.

Capsule Wardrobe

Is the capsule wardrobe the most ethical and sustainable wardrobe to own, even if you love fashion. Well, ethical means that you are buying from fair trade companies that do not harm animals and, treat other human beings in a humane way. It can also, be ethical to buy secondhand because you are not contributing to new fast fashion items being made and, preventing the clothing from going into the landfills. I have volunteered at places where clothing is donated and, sold and, they are actually really picky on what they sell so, make sure if you are donating the clothing that is goes to a place where the clothing will be used. Capsule wardrobe was created in the 1970’s by Susie Fox a London

Boutique owner. Susie, strived for a capsule wardrobe to be a small collection of 37 items of clothing to wear for the season. A season last for about three months depending on where you live. In N.J. the weather can be very tricky sometimes it can be very warm and, change to snow all of a sudden. If you can plan for this by knowing what climate you live in and, how the weather changes this will help you a great deal to create your capsule wardrobe. You will develop a wardrobe of 37 items including shoes, coats, sweaters, tops, pants, skirts, dresses, and formal wear. You will be wearing all of these pieces for 3 months so, you will want some basic pieces and colors such as, white, black, nude, and brown. Because you will be wearing these pieces for three months you will want to find your style and, probably shake it up. So, I suggest a few fun pieces or accessories that will pull your outfit together. Keep in mind that your capsule wardrobe will not consist of handbags,

workout clothing, underwear, or bras. Woohoo so, you aren’t totally constriction well, that makes me think should you cap how many bags, and workout clothing you can have for the next three months? I actually think that is in your best interest as well as, your wallets. During the next three months you will not be shopping for any clothing under any circumstance so, taking that into consideration you can save items and, put them together for your next capsule wardrobe. Your wardrobes will probably coincide and, you should only have switch out 5-8 pieces. Before you go on your be shopping spree for the next three months make a list of what you are going to need, make sure you are purchasing preloved or ethical clothing only. If you are on an ethical journey this is not about gouging your bank account it is about minimalist living and, seeing what you need and, what you can do without. Chances are you can shop your wardrobe and find half of your pieces. Shop places like thrift stores or Poshmark to get the best deals and, when shopping Poshmark do not buy NWT (New Wtih Tag) unless, it is ethical clothing. Ok, now that you are brain storming your new wardrobe get ride of what you do not need. Make four plies, keeping(only for your next three month wardrobe), storing ( for future capsule wardrobe), Poshmark ( to sell), and Friends/Charity. Go through your entire closet; clothing, shoes, bags, and, see what piles that they belong. I suggest making a capsule collection for your bags, and workout clothing. If you do this and, reduce what is in your closet it can help a great deal with organization and, sense of space. You will also, see what style your wardrobe goes toward and, if that is the same style you want to portray. I would call my style athletic, casual, classic, chic. That is the style I would like to portray with my fall capsule wardrobe. I will have to make quite a bit of sales on Poshmark to be able to achieve this wardrobe because, I’d like to buy from a few ethical stores. But, let’s be honest almost my whole wardrobe is from Poshmark right now. The reason my style has been completely out of wack is that right now I am trying to lose weight because I did

recently gain and, haven’t been fitting in my clothes as well. Weight gain and, lose can be a major problem when it comes to wardrobes because you may have to get an entirely new one based on fit. Right now I am in the process of eating well and, exercising so, there is no reason for me to invest in a summer wardrobe when I know that I will be losing weight and, may be a completely different size by September. My goal is to save about $500 from Poshmark to invest in my Fall wardrobe. $500 may actual seem low for 3 months $166.66/month but, I plan on buying mostly from Poshmark because it is the most economic for me right now. I will also, be using fall items for Fall, Winter, and most likely Spring so, a $500 investment is well worth it. I have four months to decide what I want my fall fashion to be and, focus on. If you are all invested in a summer wardrobe I suggest siting down and, see what you actually need for the summer. I will be hard at work traveling, working, volunteering, developing my style, and working out. What will you be doing to prepare for your fall wardrobe?
Have an enlightening and adventurous day,
