Simple Way To Save $500 A Year

Hello loves,

With traveling becoming a large part of the 20 “somethings'” lifestyle we are all looking at ways to cut out extra costs. Who couldn’t use an extra $500 in their savings account or to use for an airplane ticket. Where do you have to cut back in order to get it?

Yup, unfortunately those delicious soy frapps have to go.. We subconsciously are spending almost $500 on just coffee or tea. Can you imagine you have a virtual wallet and, it’s wiped clean by your insane need for caffeine filled mornings. With credit cards, debit cards at the ready their is not such a connection as their would be with cash. If you hand your card over you can pay it later as opposed to handing over your hard earned cash right then. A few ways to avoid this insane spending spree:

  • Make your own coffee and by a reusable cute to go mug that will motivate you to fill it with your own coffee
  • Load your Starbucks card with the allotted money you’re allowed to spend for the month
  • Get another job if you are serious about getting Starbucks every week

If you can kick the habit and still want to earn some dough to save for your travels here is blog post I wrote about recently that should help you find a side hustle:

Have an enlightening and adventurous day,

allie

10-11.5 hour Work Days

Hello Loves,

As I am listening to some tunes and, catching up on some blog writing I thought I’d chat with you all. This week has been a week of extremely hard work. No, I wasn’t digging any holes or, building a house but, I was building my eBay store. Between ebay ( which, to be  fair is getting most of my time), Amazon, Blogging and, YouTube I am a bit exhausted. I actually enjoy being this busy and, it is such a thrill to try to get these businesses to where I would like them to be. Reality is that I have at least three loads of laundry to wash, a dirty bathroom to clean and, a dirty room to clean. They aren’t disgusting but, it’s getting to be where I really need to clean but, where do I find the time… Well, considering that I find cleanness a necessity I need to prioritize. I talked on my instagram story about the importance of balancing work and, life when working from home. Honestly, I am actually really lucky I am single, live in my parents house and, have limited responsibilities. A lot of resellers that work from home are parents and, do not have as much as me to dedicate to their business yet, they are extremely successful. It is funny how much work I have actually been doing and, how much busier I am since opening up my eBay store. It is also, exciting and, a challenge that I am really to take on. Waking up earlier is going to have to happen for me and, utilizing my book to schedule. My number one priority is my health and, fitness which, I always make time for and, I would say the other ranking priority is my business where I need the money to support myself. Adding into my schedule will have to be laundry and, cleaning. I will also, be adding in daily walks and, yoga in the morning and, at night. Since I am sitting a lot or standing there isn’t constant movement like, walking which is a must for me. I thrive when I take walks and, do yoga. Giving my body energy through exercise will help me during my very long work days. Today, was a rare day where I went to the park with my family for lunch and, got to play frees-bee.  That is how I want me days to be, I work hard and, I play hard. I also, got some stuff done for both my Amazon and, eBay store and, hoping that some problems will be resolved. My parents helped me by doing some excel spreadsheet item inventory which, will be a big help when I go to list all of my items. I posted promotions in all my stores because I am looking to drive traffic to them. I have run a few ads for the first time on Amazon which, had seemed to be helping, I will have to look into the analytics. I also, took pictures of all the items that are going to be listed tomorrow on eBay. And, the freaking Long Term storage Fee for Amazon had me so salty this week when, I had to pay to ship items that didn’t sell back to my house. Needless to say there has been an influx of boxes and, a shortage of space which, is why all those items will be listed on eBay; I do not play around I got right to work unloading them and, listing them on eBay. There are a lot of item and, it will take me awhile but, rest assured I will have them all listed. That promoted my $1 off 4 books promotion going on in my eBay store right now! I have been so concentrated on my typing I didn’t hear the music turn off finally realized and, it’s back. Anyway, I want to make sure I am not just listing books this week so, I will tackle two of the Goodwill Bin bags that need to be listed and, half of one of the boxes in my office of clothes. In case you didn’t know any excess inventory you have laying around is called a dead pile, I do not want dead piles, dead piles equal money sitting around. Right now I have at least ten piles between my clothes, goodwill bin bags and, books that just came in. Ahhh….. That is way too many at most I would want one small dead pile in case of an emergency and, even that pile I wouldn’t have lying around for long. I averaged about 52.5 hours of work in the past five days. That is a rough estimate and, I somehow managed to have enough energy to make every single class at the gym that I go to Monday-Thursday! I don’t think I understood what tired was… Of course, I want these businesses to be successful so, I try all ways possible through social media to promote them. I made a news letter for my eBay store today because I felt I needed one. I will provide the picture below if you all would like to see it. Guess what is coming up in March? It’ book sale season! I am beyond excited and, a little nervous about juggling eBay and, Amazon during the book sale season. The challenge is quite compelling though, and, I just love doing both. One of my goals is to save up for a liquidation purchase of clothing that I can sell on both, ebay and, Amazon. No, I didn’t forget about Poshmark or, Vinted where I have been putting all the clothing/shoes I’m selling on eBay on that platform as well. Let me know if there is anything you’d like me to talk about when it comes to my businesses or, reselling. I will try to answer your questions in an article at least once a week. Although, I have been swamped I have drafted a bunch of posts when it comes to selling and, I will be posting them throughout the Spring and, Summer so, get on the email list where it will notify you when, a new post is up. Fashionista’s I haven’t forgotten about you I will be bringing you some posts in March as well!

Have an enlightening and adventurous day,

Starting An Amazon FBA Business

Ciao Tutti,

I have now been on Amazon for over two years almost, three and, my goodness have I learned a lot! Like everything you do you need a plan, follow through and, goals. Amazon FBA took a little time to adjust to but, now I am going to give you the tips and, tricks I have learned. Stay tuned for the next post where I give you the insight on what you need to purchase to begin on Amazon. If you are selling more than 40 products a month Amazon FBA is where you will want your business to be otherwise Merchant Fulfillment will not be making you money. The other down side to merchant fulfillment is that, you have to store all your items in your home; yikes, can that really eat up your house space quickly! With Fulfillment By Amazon or FBA you will be storing and, shipping all of your items to an Amazon Warehouse. Just to forewarn you that the items with disperse into different shipments so, it may take you longer to fill one shipment because, news flash it is not all going to one Amazon warehouse. This can get a bit irritating but, do not let it discourage you. Now that you are in the mindset of starting an Amazon FBA business you will need to come up with a business plan. Unlike other businesses Amazon can be a bit unpredictable about where you are purchasing from and, I still do not have a clear indicator of what is selling best.

To Start On Amazon:

  • Amazon Seller Central Account $39.99/mo.
  • Amazon Storage Fees: These fees will be changing as of Feb/March 2017 they are increasing                                  Monthly Inventory Storage Fee
    Month Standard-Size Oversize
January – October $0.54 per cubic foot $0.43 per cubic foot
November – December $2.25 per cubic foot $1.15 per cubic foot
  • Initial Cost Of All electronics You Will Need( I will be doing a separate post)
  • ScanPower or wherever you chose to list your items on: for two devices $69.95/mo. ASellerTool is what we use over the season $285 6 mo. for two devices
  • Money for start up to purchase books and items so far, I have spent about $9,000 over the past almost three years they recommend that you have at least $50,000 to spend on all your products to begin with but, I do not have they kind of money

Let’s say you need to purchase about $1,000 worth of inventory a month plus your other expenses you will need $1,109.94/mo. at least once you start shipping products you will also, being paying storage fees.

Ok, so where do you begin now that you are set up and, ready to go? Book sales, retail arbitrage, thrift stores, estate sales and, garage sales. You can also, ask you local library or the book sales if you can purchase all the books they are going to giveaway at .30/lb. That way, they are still making money and, so are you!

Book Sales: They are sales that you go to, to scan the books and, if they are worth purchasing you buy them. Most book sales only deal in cash so, go prepared. You will want to hit up all the book sales possible and, really pay attention to what is selling. Forget the non-fiction sections you do not make any money from them. Be polite at the book sales, bring your own bags and, check ahead to see if you are allowed to scan. Personally, I do not go to the book sales that don’t let you scan but, some really high rollers will still go and, just scan until someone tells them they are not allowed to. They are usually set up in schools, gyms or, libraries and, the ones that are big are really big! We go to two large sales that we stay for two days at a hotel. Of course, if you are going to stay in a hotel you will really need to hustle as you need to make enough to pay for the hotel plus the cost of the trip and, much more. Let me break it down for you

Hotel: $150/night

Gas: $18.24 roughly that is for a 2 hour drive

Food: $60 at $10 a meal

Cost Of Trip: $228.24

You would want to make 20 times that amount roughly

$4,564.80- At .50 you would need to buy 200 plus books most of them will be $2-.25 so,  that figure would probably be a little less but, you catch my drift I hope.

Normally, we will buy 600 books at a sale and, let’s say they average at making $20 a book you will have $12,000 worth of inventory in books. It all depends so, go with what you can afford. If you are able to get those 9,000 books at $20 a book you are looking at some crazy inventory $180,000. We have yet to get 1,000 books at a sale but, we are getting more efficient which means we will be quicker and, therefore, get more books.

You will be going to this site to find book sales: http://www.booksalefinder.com/

Once you have made a schedule and, budget for how much you will be spending at the book sale it is time to head out.

You are looking to cut corners anywhere you go and, if your budget is $100 per book sale you will be going on box/bag day where it is  $10/box and, $5/bag. They will provide you with boxes and, bags so, you do not need your own. However, it is easier to have your own bags like these:

I use the bags and, then strategically pack the boxes so, I can get the most bang for my buck. Bring a sheet with you that you can put over each bag so, no one mistakes your items as part of the sale. Scan away and, be polite there is no reason for you to be rude it does not help your rep. when attending other book sales. Be patient when checking out the volunteers may be unfriendly but, keep a smile and, please and, thank you goes a long way. If you go to a preview sale you will be paying $10 and up plus premium prices for the books and, for the most part sellers leave lots of great stuff so, don’t let it bum you out.

Have a snack bag with water and, lunch/snacks. You will not have time to go out and, have lunch and, this will save you quite a bit of water. Take a break of 20 min. find a place to sit and, have your lunch. If you are at a sale for 8 hours or more it is hard to walk away but, trust me you need at least two breaks of five minutes and, a 20 minute lunch break. Your eyes may get tired and, you need quite a bit of stamina to last the whole 8 hours or more of, mostly standing. Wear comfortable sneakers, have short sleeves on and, bring a comfortable sweater. The place can be freezing one minute and, you could be sweating the next. You will need a descent sized vehicle and, need to be able to lift heavy boxes. If there are two of you that is perfect because there is a lot of ground to cover and, even with both of you, you will not be able to cover 25% if it is a large sale. Be prepared to work very long hours.. This is not a scam and, it will not get you rich overnight you have to work for it.

After the sale you will list the books and, then ship them out to Amazon. I will explain in this series about how I can afford to be an FBA Seller, where I work, how to ship the books, where to purchase inventory, finding a niche and, much more. There will be a bundle of posts containing loads of info coming your way so, be sure to look out for it. If you have questions leave them below or Tweet me @thatsabang! If you have loads of questions I will be happy to do a live YouTube video answering your questions so, comment away. As always, this is from my experience and, it is meant to help you. There are FBA Sellers who have been selling over five-ten years and, I will be linking videos for you to watch as well.

Have an enlightening and, adventurous day,

Amazon Raises FBA Fees

Ciao Tutti,

Amazon just released there fee changes for 2017 and, Amazon FBA sellers are freaking out… Now, it does change a few things when it comes to selling as an FBA seller but, they change their fees every year. Amazon is trying to weed out the FBA sellers that aren’t committed to really selling on Amazon and, honestly I couldn’t be happier. Although, I am not that thrilled about the fees which, I don’t think any seller is, it just changes how I will be selling on Amazon. Instead of having lower priced books I will have to stay within $10-$15 at the lowest instead of $6-$8 at my lowest. For some reason this is not registering for other sellers and, they are fed up with Amazon claiming they will go switch to ebay. I have been doing quite a bit of research and, ebay is not a bad place to sell although, I haven’t done enough research to really sell on ebay. I have tried to sell on ebay and, it was a bit of a bust so, research is necessary to sell at least for me. I also, need a niche when selling on ebay. It is a good idea not put all your money into one item or one place it should be spread out in case it does not work out. I have been only selling on Amazon FBA for two years seriously. I have a business plan set up for each year which, tells me how much I need to purchase of each category and, how much money I will need each month to do so. With not having a large amount it is quite difficult to accomplish but, I will talk about how I semi-support myself while trying to build up my Amazon sales in another blog post.   So, my strategy this year will be slightly different more expensive books for full price book sale, half price will be a little cheaper and, box day will be $10 books instead of $5-$8 books. Adjusting with the price change that happens every year is important especially with gas changes etc. Just like we have to adjust to the economy so do our businesses. So, if you are an FBA seller take a breath and, adjust as needed just like every year especially if you want to continue on with your business.

How To Afford A New Camera

Ciao Tutti,

You may be seeing the quality of my YouTube Videos has elevated not only in the past year but, in the past several vlogs.  Well, that is because I got a new camera! I have been wanting one with a flip screen for awhile and, have not been able to afford it. In fact this is the first camera that I have purchased my other two cameras were Christmas presents. This camera was not cheap and, it is not solely mine. When I was looking to purchase the camera my brother decided that he would split the cost with me and, we would share the camera. Knowing, that I would be using it quite a bit more than he would he still decided that it was a good idea. We all know I am not rolling in dough as I talk about in almost every post… But, what we do know is that I like to hollar on a dollar. I am testing many ways to make money and, have been having an interesting time with that. If you want to learn more about that I will leave the link below. I really hunted for this camera and, so did my brother. I watched probably about 10-15 videos and, blog posts to find the right camera for what we needed without spending over $700. Finally we found the right one and, it was around $650. So, $325 each which is much more do able compared to $500-$700 by myself. Not only did my brother split the camera with me he said I only have to pay half and, he would make the other half my birthday/Christmas present. I mean, do I not have the best brother. So, that leaves me paying $162.50 for a over $600 camera… My advice is to split the cost of the camera with a family member or, you can do what I was going to and, save up for half then pay it over over the course of a couple of months. Make sure you don’t go in buying a camera that you will not be able to afford. If you can not afford a camera use your phone once you start to make money off of the video or pictures grow your cameras. It is funny I kind of think grow your camera with your videos. I kind of did the opposite kind of… My first camera I did have for four years before I got my first EOS last year for Christmas. It was my gift from the whole family as it is expensive. My first camera still works but, I needed a better quality as I was getting paid to do a few videos and, the filming was a nightmare… The focus wasn’t working for long videos you have no idea how many times I would lose footage, the camera won’t be recording and, how long it would take to set it up because I would have to replay the camera to see if I was even in the video and, adjust it… When I say nightmare I really mean a nightmare. When I learned that I could hook my EOS up to my laptop and, adjust it through there it was amazing… I still couldn’t see myself in the camera but, I could see myself on the laptop. For a year this is how I filmed and, it was not without its problems. Finally I have Cannon EOS M3 ahhh… If you watch it you will here in my video below that I am so excited about the focus. A true vlogger when you get excited about how clear your focus is… I have filmed vlog style and, filmed videos where I am just sitting and, I am in love with this camera. It is my favorite that I have used to film so far! The fact that I can flip the screen and film myself is just absolutely amazing! I defiantly recommend this camera if you need a new one. It also, takes beautiful pictures. Right now I only have one lense for this camera so, if I end up getting more at some point I will fill you in. I am currently in camera heaven, this camera has been such a dream so far.

How To Afford A New Camera List:

  1. If you can’t afford a new camera use your phone or find a inexpensive one at a garage sale or secondhand store
  2. If you are serious about filming grow the camera with your Channel or by how many clients you have
  3. Get a side job there are many online:http://thatsabang.blogspot.com/2016/11/making-300000-blogging.html
  4. Split the cost with a family member that you can trust
  5. Save over the course of the year
  6. Sell your pictures now or get some of your videos sponsored so, you can afford your dream camera
  7. Buy on huge sales such as cyber Monday

Have an enlightening and adventurous day,

allie
